wakika
Today seemed really hot and I wanted a cool sweet treat. Here in Sayulita there are lots of delicious snacks, like Helado, Paletas, Agua Frescas and Respados. Helado is ice cream, Paletas are yummy popsicles and Respados are shaved ice. I decided I wanted to go to my favourite ice cream place, Wakika. Wakika sells ice cream, popsicles and aguafrescas (sweet fruit drinks.) It's owned by my friend Duilio's family. While I was at his ice cream store I asked him some questions. I asked why he changed the name from Michoacan to Wakika. He said it was because of his brother. My favourite popsicle is mixed fruit or frutas because it has many different types of fruit in it. It has kiwi, banana and strawberry in a strawberry horchata base. I asked how do you make popsicles. He said you blend up the fruit with sugar, pour them in moulds put a stick in each mould then freeze them in the freezer.

I wondered about all the organic waste that is left over. There must be a lot of leftovers like banana peels, coconut hulls, pineapple leaves and orange peels. He brings all of this to our school in Sayulita, Costa Verde International School. Duilio brings it to our school because we are learning about composting. We use the compost for our classroom's flowerbeds. We are growing Jamaica and Basil.

I then asked him if you get a discount if you bring in your own container to drink in. He said if you bring a pitcher you can fill it up for the price of a big agua fresca. Wakika is very environmently aware because they promote reusing your own pitchers instead of using a new plastic cup, they compost their organic waste and they're local in Sayulita. Also their treats are really delicious!!!!!
